How to schedule the road test?

How to schedule the road test? The road test exam is the last step before getting the Driver’s License and could be the most challenging step of the whole process. The first important thing that you need is your Learner’s Permit, you must have the original. If for some reason you lost it, you can pay for a duplicate at the DMV.

Remember that before the road test, you must hold your Permit for 90 days (180 days for teenagers), and complete the 8-hours Safe Driving Course. The road test appointments are scheduled through DMV’s online appointment system which can be found at Connecticut’s DMV official website.

To schedule your road test, in the DMV’s online system you have to look for the “Schedule New Road Test Appointment” option, once you click on that option you need to fill out a form and set the date for your test, in the end, you will receive a confirmation email with your road test appointment confirmation, you have to print this confirmation the test day.

Important documents

The first two important documents, as we mentioned above are the Learner’s Permit and the schedule confirmation, but also you need the following documents:

1) A fully completed R-229 form application. This application is found on the second page of the appointment confirmation.

2) A properly registered and insured vehicle, if you want to know more about the vehicle’s requirements, please check out our post. DMV does not provide a vehicle for you to test in.

3) Valid Motor Vehicle Registration Certificate.

4) Connecticut insurance card, the card must be in the same name as on the registration, with the exception of leased vehicles which may be in the name of the lessee. For cars registered/insured in a state outside of CT, there are additional requirements.

5) The CS-1 Driver Education Certificate or Electronic Driver Education Certificate, this form will be issued by a Connecticut licensed driving school..

6) The license fee will be $84.00.

There are some special situations, like, if you’re under 18, your qualified trainer must be present at the DMV office and sign a form attesting that all driver education/practice driving requirements have been fulfilled. Finally, make sure to arrive at the test location 15 minutes prior to your appointment time. If you arrive late or fail to provide all necessary documents, you will have to reschedule your test.

As you can see, the trickiest part of the road test process are the documents required by the DMV office. Take your time to get all the documents and check that everything is in order. We hope this information helps you before your test and we wish you the best on the test day.
