Different terrain different tires. Different season different tires. Know and choose your tires.

Tires are important parts of the car, and are so normal and common for us. However, although tires look like a simple piece of rubber, they are pieces of high technology with a huge investment and studies behind their production. As they are not simple as they look, there are different types of tires and each one was made for different conditions, that is; different terrain different tires.

It is very important to know what the most common and important types of tires are and choose the right option.

Different terrain different tires: The most common and important types of tires

Summer and Winter tires

In countries with four seasons, and a winter with snow, like in the Northern hemisphere, the roads will be drastically affected by the weather, and cars will require different tires.

The summer tires as the name says, are for the summer or more specifically, they have a better performance in humid and dry conditions, and are designed for hot or warm climates, an interesting characteristic of these tires is that the tread pattern and groove depth are designed to dislodge water.

On the other hand, the winter tires have a better performance in winter, especially on roads with snow.

The tread pattern and groove depth are designed to provide better traction, grip, and control. As winter tires are not good in summer, and summer tires are not good in winter, they require to be changed depending on the season, which could be something expensive and annoying.

All season tires

In tropical countries where there are only two seasons, one with too much rain and the other with less rain, the use of winter and summer tires is uncommon, and the all-season tires are most used.

This is also very well known in four-season countries, as they are an economic alternative if someone cannot afford to have two different types of tires.

As the name says, these tires can be used in any season and they will do a good on the road, however, it is necessary to know that they are not as good as specific season tires (e.g., winter and summer tires), but still a good option.

All-terrain tires

If you work or stay in off-road situations, you probably must use all-terrain tires. These tires are designed for every type of difficult terrain like mud, rocks, gravel, and sand.

The tread pattern and the very deep grooves provide the perfect traction and control on the road. Although these tires are for off-road situations, they can be used on the highway or within the cities but can cause rubber wear and produce more noise while driving.

Track and competition drives

These tires are the pinnacle of performance and are rarely used for daily driving. They are made principally for competition and races and used for high- performance cars, like Ferrari, Porsche, or the F1 cars. One interesting characteristic of these tires is that they have reinforcement with Kevlar and aramid, which made them strong.

There are other tires like the Run-flat tire, very useful for emergencies, truck tires that are bigger than normal tires, and the new airless tires, which do not require air, and many important companies like Michelin are working and developing.
