Safety while driving is a really important issue, and it most likely relies on drivers and their concentration on the road. However, there are a few things that you should do before driving that will prevent engine problems on the road and even possible accidents.
Things that you should do before driving
Check the car’s oil level
A car’s oil is a really important component, as it lubricates the engine parts and avoids too much friction between them and consequently will improve the car’s performance.
So, before starting the engine and drive you should check the oil levels. To do so, you simply must open the hood and look for a yellow or orange handle, which is the oil dipstick.
Now you have located it, grab it, pull it out, and clean it. Once clean, check for the empty and full marks at the tip and reinsert it, wait two to three seconds and pull it out and look at the color on the tip. If your color is on the empty mark, fill it properly with oil.
Check the water levels
The car’s cooling system is vital for the engine and depends on the water. Engine overheating can cause serious or permanent damages, so checking the water level will prevent overheating problems.
Similarly, to the oil, you must open the hood and look for the radiator tank, it will be a notorious plastic tank generally in one of the sides. Once you locate it, find the minimum and maximum marks and check the level. If your levels are low, just open the tank and fill it with water.
Check your lights and tires
Before starting driving, just turn on your lights, get out of the car, take a walk around and check all the lights, especially the turn lights, they are not important for you, but for the other drivers, as they are the main way to communicate to others on the road.
Even if they worked the last day perfectly, they could stop working from one day to another, so check them constantly. Likewise, check your tire pressure and the tread depth, the correct air pressure and tread depth are mandatory for a safe drive.
Things that you should do before driving: Final adjustments
Once in your cart, properly adjust your seat, slide it until you have the correct distance with the pedals and steering wheel. This depends on your height, but you should extend your arms and legs keeping your knees and elbows slightly bent.
Also, take your time to check your mirrors, remember to avoid blind spots. Finally, when the engine is started, check the instrument panel. This is the final check, but it is important. Pay attention especially to temperature, oil, ABS, and fuel indicators. If you see something strange on the indicator, turn off the engine, and call your mechanic.
The things you should do before driving can seem time-consuming and boring; but if you do it constantly, it will become a normal routine. Do this for yourself and for other drivers. Be a responsible driver, be a responsible citizen.
